Titan composite material for 3D printers.

On the Australian International Airshow Scientist from Deakin University presented a 3D printed Bor Nitrit Nanotube Titanium composite Material, a groundbreaking new technology.

„While Titan Composites are widely known and used throughout the Aircraft and automobile industry, a new composite made out of nano tubes would make the material much stronger and also lightweight. This new additiv technology does have the potential to be of great value for the automobile as well as aircraft industry.“ Professor Ian Chen

Deakin Scientist not only invented this process but they also created a production method to make it a scalable and cost efficient solution for commercial use.

Researchers developed solar thermal collectors, which provide renewable energy

Nowadays, the dark blue, rectangular solar panels are installed on rooftops, where they are usually hardly visible. On the one hand, the bulky panels are not being considered as aesthetically superior and also consume too much space on the other hand. In tomorrow’s solar thermal energy this should be changed. Researchers of the Frauenhofer-Institute for Solar Energy Systems (ISE) in cooperation with industry partners worked within the framework of the “ArKol – development of architecturally highly integrated façade collectors with heat pipes” project on finding a solution to the problem. The result is two façade collectors: one of them a strip collector and the other a solar thermal blind which offers the architect more room for manoeuvre when it comes to solar energy buildings. The strip collector provides high efficiency, as well as freely selectable distance and the material between the strips. The solar thermal blind has a flexible design, to the same degree as ordinary blinds, which additionally supplies renewable energy and lowers the g-value. Both developments use heat pipes to efficiently degrade the thermal energy.

How did the ViNN:Lab contributed to that project? We printed the cladding parts of the prototype with the RepRap X400.
